Andre Harrell, is one of the most influential music executives in hip hop and R&B, has passed. Andre Harrell was the CEO of Uptown Records and was responsible for signing Sean “Puffy” Combs, Al B. Sure, The Notorious B.I.G, Jodeci, Guy, Heavy D. & Mary J. Blige, Soul 4 Real and many others. Harrell also serve as the President and CEO of Motown Records, Vice president, General Manager of Def Jam and recent Andre Harrell held the position of Vice Chairman of REVOLT TV & Media.
Harrell started his career in music as half of the duo Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the 80’s. The group would have a handful of hits on Billboards Hot R&B Songs chart. Harrell also executive produced the hit TV show “New York Undercover” and the 1991 film comedy “Strictly Business”.
In December Harrell would announce that he would be working with BET to bring the Uptown Records story to life as a three night scripted miniseries in 2020. “I am thrilled to partner with BET Networks and Jesse Collins Entertainment to share my story, the rise of Uptown Records and successful black entrepreneurship, and the management and cultivation of some of the most iconic artists to come out of the late ’80s and ’90s hip-hop, R&B and soul music era,” said Harrel
